B i o g r a p h y

I joined the SCA in 1997 in the Shire of Ramsgaard. A month later, I became the Chirurgeon of the shire and was Event Steward of my first event that same year. Getting involved is something I enjoy, as while I love to relax and enjoy, I also like being helpful and useful.

Although I have been a musician, artist and actor all my life, I only began getting involved in Bardic within the SCA in 2004 when I entered and won the Barony of Lions Gate’s Bardic competition, much to the surprise of many who had no idea I was a “bard”. No longer able to hide, I started delving more deeply into the bardic arts, in particular, music.

Shortly thereafter, I was apprenticed to Mistress Seiglynda. She introduced me to a few local Bardic Laurels who then helped me along the way, giving me advice, pointers, tips and information.

In 2007, I competed in and won the Principality of Tir Righ’s Bardic Championships. My stint as Bardic Champion, aka “Skald of the North”, was both rewarding and enlightening. I travelled all over An Tir, performed, taught classes, fostered Bardic as best I could and have seen some great Bards come out of the woodwork since then, including my own students, Wulfstan Hrafnsson & Asny Ravnsdottir.

I began painting charters in 2007, using period paints but largely in my own style (hard to break the art school training to embrace solely period techniques, but I'm learning while still keeping it my own). I began Tablet weaving in around 2008 and fell in love with it, but had to stop recently due to problems with my hands which are still in the process of being fixed.

In 2009, I competed at Kingdom Bardic, with another Scandinavian Ballad (“Den Underbara Fiolen” which I sang in Swedish), a piece called "Have You Seen But the Whyte Lillies Grow" from a play called "The Devil is an Ass" by Ben Jonson & Robert Johnson, and one modern SCA flavoured piece written by Wyndreth Bergensdottir called “Savage Daughter”, which has become my “signature” piece as it has been very popular at Bardic. I didn’t win the day this time, but I had a great time (despite being deathly ill), was given some great advice, and met some amazing people, including my current Laurel, Mistress Alisaundre and her equally amazing family.

I have been Event Steward/Co-Steward of several events including Lions Gate's Heavy/A&S/Bardic Defenders in 2006, 12th Night in 2007 and Kingdom Bardic in 2008. I also continue co-stewarding events including scheduling judges and judging for Kingdom and Principality A&S/Bardic Championships for the last 3-4 years.

Currently I am continuing my studies of Scandinavian Balladry and other Scandinavian singing styles, still card weaving, still painting and designing Scrolls among other things.
